Can only open files in safe mode

Every time I open Word 2003 I get this message, "Word failed to start
correctly last
time. Starting Word in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup
problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may
be disabled in this mode." How can I get rid of this and be able to open my
files directly?

When only Safe mode works, this usually is a sign of a) corrupted normal.dot
and/or b) corrupted registry key (usually the Data key). Take a look here
