Can not view workgroup computer

I am trying to hook up a new PC, running on WinXP Pro, to
the existing workgroup....After reboot, I can only see my
own computer in "My network places". Any idea ?

I tried both by specifying static IP and DHCP ... still
fail.

I can ping other computer in the workgroup, even from
other workgroup that on the same LAN.

I am able to seach other computer in the workgroup thru
the IP, but not the computer name.

Pls advise. Thanks in advance.

Did you run the XP Network Setup Wizard on all machines? If yes, were you
sure to turn off all firewalls including the XP firewall? During the
wizard, you are asked how this machine connects to the Internet. An
incorrect response will block network access. Usually, the "gateway"
response is correct while the "hub" response is incorrect though you may
have to play with the responses in that area.

If none of the above help, I might suggest you post your follow up to the
network_web board informing them of what you've already done. Go to the
following link:

when I first hooked up my laptop(WinXP Home)into the LAN,
It failed to see the server running on Windows2000.
However, it was able to see the other computer running on
Windows98.
Today, It can only see its own files.
