Can not view Java pictures on XP

I recently installed XP Home addition after a hard drive
crash. The system came with Win 98. After many hours
with Microsoft experts I cleared the hard drive and then
installed XP. The only problem I am having is viewing
Java appletts. Does XP have the capablity to display
Java pictures or did the update use the 98 system? I
have looked on the Internet Explorer Tool bar under the
Advanced settings. There is not reference to enabling
Java features. If it is not on the system, how do I
install Java so that I can view information using this
system. (I have two job related web sites that use Java
appletts to display graghs and finacial information).
Thanks for your help.

dear Lee At pcworld.com under "Windows tips" there is a section on
setting IE browser and java prefferences. When I loaded XP2 it completely
rearranged my settings. This is probably a result of Sun Micro beating up on
Bill Gates in court. If you cant find any thing at PCWorld just hit the net
with "ie settings for java" you should get a fist full of sites that will
help. ddddd1
