This all started today for no apparent reason. I have both the Welcome
Screen and Fast User Switching enabled from the User Accounts control panel.
However, when I try to switch users, it locks the computer. If I log off,
it takes me to the 2K style log in. I have tried disabling and re-enabling
the Welcome Screen and FUS, with no luck. I have tried rebooting, also with
no luck. Offline files is disabled, so that's not the problem. Any ideas?

Perdita - sort of a shot in the dark here, but try this out (Courtesy of
Mark Ferguson)

"Go to Start/Run, and type MSCONFIG.
Click the "Expand File" button, and browse to:

%windir% \ System32 \ WINLOGON.EXE

This should replace the file, and correct that error."

It says "One or more of the fields is empty. All of the fields must have
values before expanding." probably refering to the Restore From: field. :S
Where would I get the file to restore from?

Sidenote: I'm surprised MS didn't make the ability to restore system files
more obvious.

The top field should say:
WINLOGON.EX_

The second field should point to the installation source for Windows XP. If
this is on a CD-ROM (X drive, for example), then the second field would be:
X:\i386
If you have an i386 folder on your PC instead, you can point to that as
well.

The third field should be where you want to restore the file to. This can
be a temp folder, or %SystemRoot%\System32.

On a similar note, you may want to try running SFC /SCANNOW from a command
line instead of doing this. That will scan all of your Windows files and
validate that they are correct. Have your XP CD ready, if you've got one,
when you do this.

Still no luck. It didn;t give me an error, it asked me to restart, but the
2K login was still there.
