Can not reinstall Office Professional 2003 on my Vista machine

I had Office Professional 2003 previously installed on my computer which was
running XP. I upgraded to Vista back in June and did not have a problem with
anything until this week. I kept getting errors when composing email and
when attempting to open Word. I tried to repair but the program kept
erroring. So, I did an uninstall and then tried to reinstall. I keep
getting an error that the installation package is not valid. I have a
legitimate copy of the software but if the iinstallation software on the CD
is not compatible with Vista what am I supposed to do in order to reinstall
it? I'm desperate to get my programs back on the computer as my work depends
on it!!!!! Please help!

I posted this in two forums. This one by mistake. I moved it to the Office
forum and there after several attempts I finally posted what worked. Stupid
me :)-( - there was a smudge on the CD stopping the install. But the error
message didn't say anything about not being able to read the disk just that
the installation package wasn't valid. Thanks for trying to help!
