Can Not Get Alexa Toolbar To Install Properly in IE 6 SP2 - AAARRG

Hi...

I don't know what happened or why, but my Alexa Toolbar not only shows now
as a blank/empty toolbar, but the toolbar names / check marks pulldown via
right-click shows a blank space where "Alexa Toolbar" should be, though there
is a check mark to the left of the blank space. I've talked with Alexa
support, and all the assistance they were able to give me was to tell me to
check my firewall and anti-spyware settings to make sure that it wasn't
blocking Alexa. Not only have a done that umpteen times - and am 100%
positive it's not that - AND I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled
the damn thing...the same bad results occur. I just can NOT get it to work
properly and show any info like it used to.

I DON'T want to re-install Windows XP just for this. There has got to be a
way to fix this. But, of course, with the millions of IE users - and who
know how many of them have the ALEXA Toolbar installed - they just haven't
heard of this situation.

I also tried to "repair" IE via the right-click INSTALL on the ie.inf file.
That has NEVER worked for me - EVER.

ANY ideas - ANYBODY???

Thanks!!

Andy

Alexa Toolbar is 'crap ware". Spyware, Adware, call it what you like, but
is is not good to have on your HD. I hope the anti-spyware program you use
removed it.

I am not sure you understand that not all that is free on the internet is
good. There is no such thing as a free ride from a great deal of the
"freeware" on the internet ( there are exceptions, like Spybot S&D, AdAware
and other well know freeware products).

This "crapware" toolbar you allowed to be installed, targets ads to your
computer, tracks your usage of the internet, and some have reported a new
"keylogger" is being installed by Alexa. People who have this "crapware"
don't even know they are downloading this crap. It is dangerous so be glad
it is not working right now.

Maybe a trip to www.lavasoft.com, www.safer-networking.org would help.
Download the free software, not adsupported software, and run a check on you
system. Expect to find that you have a problems.

Unsafe web surfing is no different than unsafe sex. Chances are something is
going to die sooner or later. With the later it is only a computer, a
machine.

I have to admit that as one who runs businesses on the internet, I did like
the convenience of seeing a site's ranking (albeit by Alexa) and an easy way
to see links to a site, web traffic, etc.

Can you suggest maybe some legit software or otherwise that can show me
these items?

Thanks!
