Can not drag links as per OE6/IE6

You can no longer drag a url link from an email and drop it on an I.E.
window

This used to be a good way of opening a webpage in a specific IE window
instead of clicking the link which would open in whichever window it felt
like - which might be over the top of a web page you want to keep open

Is this a problem with Vista mail or IE7 and is it likely to get fixed
properly?

Far from being a problem, it's an improved feature, long touted as superior
when other browsers used it first. You can set links to perform whatever
desired behavior you prefer with the TABS option settings.

Yes tabs are wonderful - but!

In fact i notice you can't even drag a url link from one IE window to
another (or even one tab to another) - which suggests it's an IE7 problem

Hi,
That was changed about 2 years ago, maybe longer. It was one of a number of
security enhancements quietly slipped into IE6 via updates. It's not a Vista
/ IE7 issue.

Hope this helps,

I do - but tried this article and unfortunately it still doesn't work
(drag/drop is already enabled which must be some other issue)

I think it is due to IE7 running in Protected Mode, as this does not happen
in XP. But this does happen in XP when you RunAs IE7 as another user. When
IE7 runs in Protected Mode, it is not actually running in your userspace.
It's sandboxed.

Does this happen with UAC turned off?

Oh, I just realised that I misread your question.
