Can I simplify my setup?

I have 2 Windows XP Pro machines and both connect by wire to a combined ADSL
Modem/Router.

Everything works - each machine sees the internet and sees eachother.

My only concern is that when I look at 'Network Connections', I see a
'Internet Connection' in the 'Internet Gateway' section and no less than 3
entries in the 'Network Bridge' section: a '1394 Connection'; a 'Local Area
Connection'; a 'Network Bridge (MAC Bridge Miniport)'.

My physical setup is so simple that I was sure that I wouldn't need as many
Network Connections to make it work.

Can I simplify?

Thanks,

Steven

The Internet Gateway icon represents your ADSL Modem/Router, which
announces its presence on your network and is being discovered by your
computers. Clicking the icon lets you monitor/control the router's
operation. If you don't want to see the Internet Gateway, you can
either:

1. Run "services.msc" on each machine and disable the "SSDP Discovery
Service", or:

2. Disable the "UPnP" feature in your router.

The Network Bridge was probably created by running XP's Network Setup
Wizard. It isn't needed, and you can delete the Network Bridge by
right-clicking it and clicking Delete.

The 1394 connection is your computer's built-in IEEE 1394 (FireWire)
port.

The Internet Gateway icon represents your router and isn't a physical
connection.

You can probably delete the network bridge.
