Can I make index entries in Word not case-sensitive?

In Word 2003, if I make "tomato" an index entry/field, it will not put
"Tomato" (e.g., from the beginning of a sentence) into the index. Is there
any way I can avoid making double entries/fields (one with beginning lower
case, another with upper case) for all the words I want indexed?

Edit the XE field for "Tomato" to say "tomato."

Thank you. Apparently the "trick" is to make all XE fields lower case unless
specifically desired to be upper case.
