Can I fix ctfmon.exe problems

V

Hi, sometimes I have programs freeze up on me & cant even
close them using the Task manager..

I notice when I shutdown the computer to close them
(grrrr), that mainly the ctfmon.exe wont close properly
so I have to manually close it.
I understand that this file is supposed to be something
to do with Office Xp, which I dont have installed,
although I have Xp Pro, & I have the Power Point Viewer
97 installed to view PPS..
Can I remove ctfmon or stop it from loading... Or should
I uninstall the PowerPoint viewr & reinstall it in case
that is the cause..lol

I am just a home user & don't use the comp for office
apps..

Thanks in advance :)

Hello,
I have the same problem ctfmon is a text to speach engine
and no matter how many time I disable it through msconfig
it kept coming back.I now use a small and useful
program "winpatrol" one funtion is a startup manager
which stops the atuo starts of programs like ctfmon and
quicktime it works and is free www.winpatrol.com
