Can I delete these unecessary folders?

If have several folders in the root of my main hard drive that seem
unecessary. They look like remnants of software installations - Can they be
deleted?

1. config.msi (which is empty)
2. 67dc84efd89d3e8ef0e61e106754df59 (which contains a single text file with
a log of actions taken to install a piece of software, file called
%temp%dd_msxml_retMSI.txt)
3. 401c216ad483db692e (as 2, log file called msxml4-KB927978-enu.log)

I also have a folder called MSOCache but I think I should keep that one -
looks like a copy of actual installation files (ie CAB files) under a sub
folder 90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9 so I presume it may be used by
windows update.

Items 2 & 3 can be deleted as they are update folders that should have been
deleted anyway.

I don't know about item 1...but I assume that if it was needed in the
future...
it would simply be recreated

Hi Lorne,
The first item:
1-config.msi: is the Microsoft Installer for Office suite and other
application, do you have trouble updating or activating Office?.
The above located here:
C:\config.msi

The Second and the third are for :
MSXML 4 or 6 security updates installation text log and they can be safely
deleted they located here:
C:\401c216ad483db692e the size about 286 or so!.
The fourth concerning the Office suite.

The item(s) in the C:\Config.MSI *folder* are needed only during an
installation or uninstallation. They get added to a pending rename
registry key which deletes them when Windows loads (so you have to
reboot to get rid of them). If you have rebooted and no installs or
uninstalls are in progress then delete the folder with any files under
it.

The other 2 numerically-named folders are also for installs. If you
don't have any pending installs then they are fluff and can be
deleted.

The C:\MSOcache folder are files from the MS Office installation.
They are stored there so you can go under Add/Remove Programs to
change the setup of MS Office, like installing components that were
not installed before or were marked to be installed when needed during
the install of Office. I don't recall this folder getting created for
retail versions of Office. I've seen it in corporate environments
where the desktop or laptop was preset with an standard image. You
don't get the install CD so this MSOcache provides you the necessary
cab files needed to change your install of Office (rather than
requiring the user to know about and use a copy on a networked drive
or via a UNC to another host).
