Can I delete System.sav ?

I have a folder in my root named "C:\SYSTEM.SAV\" It appears to contain an
old backup copy of a selection of my files in addition to a bunch of
windows-looking stuff. It contains 3-4 GB of files.

I don't know where this "folder" came from. One guess is that it was
created when I upgraded from Windows XP to Vista. This is only a guess,
though, as microsoft.com and google searches don't seem to reveal much.

Question: Can I delete "system.sav" ??? Does anyone know what it is ???

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

System.sav (directly under the root directory) appears to be associated with
Compaq computers (or similar) and is part of their recovery program. How your
other files ended up in there is another story ... You should be able to copy
your files back to their original locations, but I would advise against
deleting this folder without knowing for certain what it actually is.

Thanks for your help. Since it's an HP thing, not a Vista thing, I now know
to look around there. Great.

These are files I have elsehwere, so I think I'm OK to delete them then.

Best,
Keith

Why not just temporally rename them and if you have a problem change the
name back using safe mode?
