I recently added a second drive to my XP Home system. The first drive
is
partitioned as C and D. The new drive is set as I: But I also have it
mounted through an NTFS folder under D: called D:\Photos. I can get to
it
either way. Now when I open it from I: I can do anything--delete
files, add,
rename, directories, etc...
But if I access it from D:\Photos, I can delete files, but not
directories.
I get the following error:
Cannot delete folder: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the
file is
not currently in use.
Adding to the strangeness...I can access my D: drive as a share even
from my
own pc, and from there I can do anything I want to D:\Photos.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I have XP Pro with three SATA drives, drives C: D: and E:
When I mount Drive D: or E: in an empty NTFS directory in Drive C: to
make it invisible to users, I can create and delete files, I can
create
folders but for some weird reason I can't delete folders in the
mounted
drives, even empty ones I just created. I can create and delete files
in
those new folders, I can delete files at the root but can't delete the
folders themselves.
So I decided to put the drive back into Drive E: and I was able to see
it
at both locations, one mounted in the directory on drive C: called
c:\sparedrive and as drive E: (same drive both locations).
From Drive E: I'm able to delete directories and do whatever in the
drive
as long as it Drive E: but when I go back to c:\sparedrive (same
drive) I
can do everything except delete folders ??? what's weird is that I'm
able
to create and delete files in c:\sparedrive I'm able to create folders
in
c:\sparedrive but can't delete them and the permissions from both
places
are the same. I checked the permissions and I have full ownership and
control.
Why can I delete folders when it's listed as Drive E: but not when I
mount it as a volume it in a NTFS directory ?
