Can connect to router but not to internet?

Thanks, Jimmy, but this is not helpful! Microsoft's awareness of the problem
isn't helpful, either! The list of different routers that do not work is
pretty impressive, and now includes the new one I bought tonight. Really, the
devices I'm using are approved LIVE routers, with the right firmware -- how
come they, and all these others, are suddenly "not properly handling internet
traffic" when they were just fine and still work with my XP and Mac systems?

I know, not fair to pile on. Sorry... just so frustrating, and i have yet to
see an official word on the problem.

For a wired router, if:

- You have full access to your local network
- You can ping internet sites, such as www.google.com
- You cannot access the internet

This is indicative of a problem with the way the router handles Window
Scaling. This is a new feature in Vista that allows your network to
automatically "tune" itself to get the best network performance.

For more information on this feature, follow this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/wndp/archive/2006/05/05/Winhec_blog_tcpip_2.aspx

Now, even though this is a new feature in Vista, Window Scaling is part of
the standards that these router manufacturers are supposed to adhere to.

Unfortunately, since not many OS's do alot of things with Window Scaling,
some routers will not handle it correctly. I'm sorry you are having bad luck
finding a good one.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I can only tell you what Microsoft has
said. Which is, that they are reading your posts in the newsgroups and
debugging the problem.

- They are going to do everything they can to get this feature to work with
all routers, if they can.
- Download the latest firmware for your routers
- If Microsoft comes up with a solution to this problem on their end, they
will distribute the fix as a Windows Update. So, if you can directly connect
your box to the internet every now and then to download Windows Updates, you
should.

I am going to have to disagree with this theory. I have been running Vista
Beta for 1 week with no issues connecting to the Internet. My power went
out and when I was able to get back on I was getting this issue. Checking
the update log i have not received any updates since yesterday, so nothing
has changed on my PC (software or hardware) nor my router and I am
experiencing this issue. I have a WRT54G (linksys) router and again had no
issues till a forced reboot

Its not the router. I am running 5 computers off of mine. I
am having the same problem with my vista computer. Im pretty sure its
vista. You all might want to try to shut off
your computer and when you
turn it on, start pushing f8 unitl you get to a menu and then select
debug mode. That might fix it
for a little while.
