Can connect to network but not Internet

P

Peter Aitken

My new laptop has a wireless connection to my small network. It can see the
other computers on the network, and they can see it. I can use remote
desktop. I can browse to a web site maintained on one of the other network
computers. I cannot however access the external Internet from the laptop,
although I can from the other computers on the network. ipconfig tells me
that an IP address has been assigned to the laptop. I have TCP/IP associated
with the wireless connection. Running Network Setup Wizard does not help.
Any ideas what's wrong? Win XP Pro on all systems, all connected to a
Linksys WRT54GS router.

If I ping www.yahoo.com I get a "could not find host" message. If I
ping Yahoo's IP I get Request Timed Out.

Always with a broadband connection, do these steps first:
Shut down modem - remove power.
Shut down router - remove power.
Shut down computers.
After one minute, restart modem. When it has fully booted, start the
router. When the modem has fully booted, start all the computers.
