camcorder recognition

I wonder if anyone can help please. I have a sharp vl pd3h camcorder and am
trying to capture video from this to either windows movie maker or other
software but I cannot get my computer to recognise it. Any suggestions?

No, not a firewire - a female 9 pin cable

Movie maker does not work with analogue very well, if at all. Your cam is a
minidv, and it has a firewire connection, so you really need to use it.
You'll be amazed at how simple capturing then becomes. If you are unsure if
you pc has firewire check out this page for ehlp on how to find out.

Cari (another!) thank you for your help - as with Graham you have now set me
on the task of discovering if I have firewire as apparently this is what I
require. am also trying to discover if I need video cards or such like.

Graham - thanks so much for the help. I knew it was going to be too easy just
to plug in what I had and hope. I am in touch with Dell who can confirm for
me if I have the necessary 'bits' to cope with this. I am also looking to
acquire a firewire cable which is obviously the key thing.
