Calendar reminder does not work even though it's turned on

Hi I tried the switches and ran the inbox repair tool 3 times but with
no joy. ANy other possibilities greatly appreciated.

Alternatively I could create a new profile and I guess try and export
the various folders independantly ( sent items, contacts etc,) until I
encounter a pronlem and undo that export/import as the damaged files
are found. Would that work?

This has not solved my problem. Additionaly, when I access my calender
through web access, all of my reminders pop up.

Web access is something completely different. If those switches did not work
then the next steps are to create a brand new profile (not a copy of your
existing one) and if that fails a completely new PST file or mailbox.

Perhaps you can help me with this. I actually created a new profile on a
different machine, and had the same problem. Also I have searches on both my
local machine, and the exchange server and do not see any .pst files.
Please advise.

You wouldn't have PST files if you are using an Exchange mailbox. The store
is located in the EDB on the server. You would need an Exchange admin to
create a new mailbox for you and migrate all your old items over to the new
mailbox.

Actually, as pitiful as it sounds, I am a domain/exchange admin. (Just
migrated from NetWare) Can I export all old my data to a .pst file, delete my
mailbox then re create it? Or do I need to blow away my domain account and
start fresh?

You can copy anything you want from your mailbox to a PST file but you'd
lose the single instance storage. Not sure that means anything to you or
that it's important.

I'd post this in an Exchange admin group to get their expert advice on the
best way to do this. Make sure you post your Exchange version and SP level.
I just play at being an Exchange admin on my own private Exchange server (or
my Labrador does the admin work for me sometimes), I'm not a real Exchange
admin.

i need help with my reminders I am running exchange server and syncing a
blackberry and my reminders just stopped working. I am going crazy without
the reminders. I reminders do come up on the blackberry but not my laptop.

Please help.

It could be a lot of things. Some synch software corrupts the hidden
Reminders folder or create duplicates of it, those switches fix that
problem. Other things can corrupt the MAPI property that tells Outlook where
the Reminders folder is located, /resetfolders resets those pointers.

Thanks ken, this fixed my problem.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just add those switches to my regular
start up?

I don't know why I lost reminders (I don't sync), but it took almost a whole
day (of missed meeting start times!) before I discovered it.

Thanks

Rick

In general I wouldn't recommend adding those switches to the normal startup
shortcut, but if you keep having these problems you can reconsider that.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for responding to the first request; I had the
same problem and your solution worked for me. Your expertise is appreciated!

Hi,

After reading all the 55 posts before me :)

It still doesn't work for me. We use Outlook 2003 with SP2. The problem is
as following:

When someone set an appointment request (for example for 3 hours from now),
with the default 15 minutes reminder and show time as busy, I receive the
appointment and approve it, but when I enter the appointment inside the
calendar I can see that the reminder is off (gray).

I tried to do the following:
1) Uncheck the "Use Cached Exchange Mode" and restart the Outlook.
2) Use the command - outlook.exe /resetfolders /cleanreminders
3) Use the command - outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy
4) Delete the outlook profile and create a new outlook profile
5) Prayed the lord ;)

None of this helped.

Please advise,
Thanks in advanced,
Shahar.

The only other things I can think of are to run Scanpst if you are using a
PST file or Scanost if using cached mode. Does this happen with anyone else
in your organization? I have the reminder here and can set it, clear it or
change it once I've accepted the meeting request.

Hi Ken,

I've tried 3 times to run Scanpst.exe as you and one of the other posts
suggested. It didn't help for this problem and caused a new problem - it
converted the .PST file from 253Mb to 150Kb. Fortunately, we marked the
“create a backup†checkmark.

After continue investigating this issue, our IT manager (finally) found out
the solution for this - he told us to run:

Outlook.exe /cleanrules

This command solved our problem. I could see the reminders of appointments
again.

Thanks for your help,
Shahar Peretz

I've read through most of these threads and nothing has helped. In addition
to trying the switches, I tried deleting all email accounts and recreating
them, deleted outlook.pst to force Outlook to recreate it, and ran Detect and
Repair. I'm not running any sync software.

Nothing has worked.

Any other suggestions?

The only other thing I can think of is to use OutlookSpy or MFCMAPI to see
if you really have a Reminders folder, what its contents and MAPI
restriction are and whether or not the PR_REM_ONLINE_ENTRYID and
PR_REM_OFFLINE_ENTRYID properties match the EntryID's of the Reminders
folder in online and offline modes.

Unless you're familiar with MAPI properties though something like that would
probably need a lot of hand holding.

Is there any place I can pick up step-by-step instructions? Is there anything
I would be able to look for in the Knowledge Base? I've been in the registry
and I'm familiar with successfully modifying those entries (and the
precautions to take before doing it).

Trying to resolve the problem without having to "erase" Office.
