Calendar in Archive Folder

Can someone explain briefly what is the Calendar in Archive Folder that I
see next to my main Calendar. Is it some type of back up? If the
explanation is too lengthy, you can direct me somewhere if necessary.
With appreciation for any help

It is not a backup. When AutoArchive runs it looks for items in any folder
whose modified date is older than the criterion you chose for the
autoarchive process. It moves any items it finds to a folder in the archive
PST whose name matches that of the folder originally containing the item.

I can't open my archive file. When I go to it in Outlook under file/Open
data file/archive it is blank when I open it, and when I go through local
settings/application data/microsoft/outlook/archive, it says "unknown
application" and if I click on search for a program, it sends me to
Microsoft's webpage.

You can't open a PST from Windows Explorer. If you open it in Outlook with
File>Open>Outlook Data File, you should, at a minimum, see folder names and
"Deleted Items" at a minimum. You say "it's blank", but I don't believe
that's true. What do you really see?
