Calendar colouring instead of showing status / appointment details

I'm not sure if this is possible, but i'm looking to change slightly the way
other members of staff see my calander.

Would it be possible to colour code different types of appointments, for
example, if i have no appointments my calender appear one colour, if i have
an appointment it shows as another etc etc, private meetings / appointments
another colour?
If possible though, could the contents of appointments etc be hidden from
people looking at my calender, so all they will see is if i have any spare
time for appointments etc by what colour my calader is??

Outlook will color appointments based on the Show time as setting - Busy is
blue, tentative has blue & diagonal lines, free doesn't show and out of
office is purple. If the people looking at your free/busy don't have
reviewer permission, they will only see colors. See and example at

Hi Diane,

many thanks for that, you're spot on!!
one question though, can the permissions required to enable this be set from
server level, or does each user have to set this up manually?

Cheers
