cable modem network

We just recently signed up for cable high speed via the folks over at
Time Warner. We have two computers but when the guy came my girlfriend
only had the tech set up one of the computers. We have a smc router
and TW set us up with a motorola modem. Now the problem is we can not
connect to the internet via the router. I was able to get the second
computer to link up to the internet directly using the cmd prompts
ipconfig statements. But I can't get both computers to link up via the
router. Both computers are running XP.
Thanks in advanced

Make sure that the router is properly connected: cable modem to the
WAN (Internet) port, and computers to the LAN ports.

When moving a cable modem from one device (the first computer) to
another device (router), you must reset the cable modem. For most of
them, that just means unplugging the modem from the AC power for a few
seconds and then plugging it back in. For the newer
telephone-plus-Internet cable modems, that means pushing the tiny Rest
button.
