Cable modem network connection will not disconnect.

Hi,

I have broadband (cable not ADSL) and for some reason my cable modem
network connection will not disconnect -- I've been using the same
broadband service for 3 years and have always been able to 'disable' the
connection before, which I do almost every night. Now when I try to
disable the connecting I get this error:

"Error Disconnecting -- It is not possible to disconnect at this time.
This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support
Plug-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user or system
account."

Ideas to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

Running Windows 2000 Server SP4 - no new hardware has been installed for a
long time.

Thanks,

MS

If you are using a NAT router/firewall or software I would not worry about
disconnecting. I am not sure where you are trying to disconnect but you could try
disabling your network adapter in networking connections. If that is what you are
having a problem with try rebooting the computer. Other options are to shut down the
computer or turn off your cable modem. Also check Event Viewer for any clues if it is
an operating system problem. --- Steve

Thanks Steven.
I am not sure where you are trying to disconnect

In the 'connection status' dialog I hit 'disable' and it results in the
'can not disconnect' error message.
disabling your network adapter in networking connections.

I could do that, but it requires a reboot which is: a) too much hassle and
b) a work-a-round which doesn't sort the problem out.
Event Viewer for any clues if it is an operating system problem.

4 possibilities:

a) "QoS RSVP has failed to find any interfaces with traffic control
enabled. Install QoS traffic control services via network and dial-up
connections."

b) "The server service was unable to recreate the share SYSVOL because the
directory C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol no longer exists."

c) "The server service was unable to recreate the share NETLOGON because
the directory C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\STAN.NET\SCRIPTS no longer exists."

d) This one is repeated about 30 times.
"Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The server is:
{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable."

I don't know what the relevance of these are.

Thanks and regards,
