[BUG] Cannot Install Vista RC1 x64

Hello all,

I have a bad bug with Vista build 5600 x64; I cannot finish the setup
process at all.
It's very strange because for installing I used a clean drive and a minimal
hardware setup to not have problems.

All starts well but after the first reboot, at the time of searching for the
devices in the system, the setup does a system error (the classical "blue
screen of death"). The driver causing the crash is "nvlddmkm.sys", a nvidia
driver, I suppose.

I tried several different things but nothing works so far.

This is the system I tried installing Vista RC1 x64:
AMD Athlon FX-62, Asus MN232 SLI (nForce 590 SLI), 2x TWINX Corsair 1024MB
EPP, Nvidia GeForce FX 7950 GX2 1024 DDR3, Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS, 2x TWINX
Corsair 1024MB EPP, 2x 80GB Matrox (usually in RAID 0, but not at this time).

As you see a minimal setup and a fair high-end PC.

If would gladly accept any help, if you need more informations feel free to
ask.

Best regards,
Fabio Barrettone

If it's any consolation Fabio I know someone w/ a similar problem.
What makes you 'suppose' that "The driver causing the crash is
nvlddmkm.sys"?.
Does it boot in Safe mode?.

Yes, it boots, only that naturally it cannot continue the setup. Looking at
the image dump created after the crash I've seen that it's a concern caused
probably by the video card, but can also be the n590 chipset, I'm not sure.
I've not more the old 6800 to test it, or I will do it to be sure.

Well, that I'm not alone it's not a consolation, but at least I know for
sure that it's a bug.

Sorry, I forgot to say that the driver that cause the problem is
"nvlddmkm.sys" because at the crash the "blue screen" says it. In little word
the screen says: "A driver caused an error and the system is rebooted to
prevent damaging it. Exception (number) cause by driver nvlddmkm.sys etc."

Kevin,
if you read the "solution" bob posted it states "I can confirm that this bug
still exists with the new 5728 installation".

Thank you very much. The reason why Microsoft included a buggy driver
however it's beyond me.

Thank you again.

No, thank you Fabio for enlightening us w/ the problem.
Now others know about it and how to work around it. Hopefully this includes
MS.
