Hi Jeffrey :)
Since installing Win XP SP2 and accessing a site that
requires a second browser window to open , it opens as a
small square and not a full window or even a half screen.
How do I fix this problem?

Try the following and see if it helps:

Courtesy of Jim Byrd:

"Close all windows EXCEPT the one that opens "minimized"; right click on
your
Task Bar, either on the open space on the right or left end (your choice);
select "Tile Windows Horizontally" and IE will maximize; close IE. Re-open
IE and it will be maximized. Just showed a buddy this trick yesterday and
works like a charm. Enjoy."

It does work like a charm, but it isn't quite a normal "maximize" just a
full screen with a border. However, it does subsequently hold that.

There's also AutoSizer, free, here: http://www.southbaypc.com/ (what I
use, BTW)

Here's another, courtesy of a Frank Saunders post:

"From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/offpos.htm

Symptom: IE opens a maximized window shifted down and to the right.

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the taskbar and while the window is
maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size. This is to
try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.

or..........

To control the size of primary and secondary IE windows, start by closing
all IE windows. Then launch IE, right-click on any link, and choose Open in
New Window. Size the secondary window the way you want all such windows to
be. Now close it by clicking on the X icon at the top-right corner while
holding down the Shift key. Repeat this for the primary window that remains.
You may have to repeat the process from time to time.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread

with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jeffrey,

Jan is very helpful. However, I'm having the same problem
you are. I would be very interested to know if any of
these workarounds helped you or not.

Hi Jeffrey :)
Downloaded Autosizer and currently testing it.
I found that it must be up and running before it works properly.
when I am accessing a secured site that has a second browser coming
up the autosizer needs to be showing up on the task bar.

Yes, it should be active, with an icon in the system tray at the lower right
hand corner near the Time, or the task bar, all the time.

Please post back with the results of your tests. I don't have the problem,
as I don't have XP, so I can't test it myself too well. Jim Byrd is one of
the regular MVP's here on this NG, and he is very well respected for his
knowledge and expertise with IE and OE. If the Autosizer does not work for
you, I am sure he really would like to know, and what the results are of
your testing. :)

If it will make you feel any better, which, understandably, it may not, this
seems to be a very widespread problem that is happening to a lot of folks
after installing the SP2. We are working to try to find a reason for it,
and failing that, a work around that will help resolve the problem.

Thank you for your patience. :)

Did you ever try any of the suggestions or information I provided for you in
the last thread you jumped into? Perhaps if you posted a new thread of your
own with all the details of your specific problem, what you have tried, and
the results, and such, we might be able to assist you better.

Thank you. :)

Take the small screen and using the mouse drag it to its
full screen size. After that hold down the shift key and
then hit the x on the top of the screen to close it. Next
time it opens it will be full size.

I hope they find fix for this as it is very annoying to
have to install something just so a program to work
correctly.
