Browser Window Closes

An annoying problem has cropped up when my IE6 encounters
a link that leads to the opening of a secondary browser
window. The primary window closes.

As there are no live links back to the closed primary
window in the new window I cannot go back to it (unless I
use History).

Any advice about how to rectify this so that the primary
window remains open would be much appreciated.

My problem is similar but not the same.

When I link to another window and close that window, I get
the "encountered an error" message and forces me to click
on either "report an error" or "don't send report". When
I click either choice, all IE windows close suddenly.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Thanks for your posts.

Microft Online Support suggested the following and it
worked so I didn't need to go digging further.

Disable third party browser extensions
========
1. Click Start, Click Run and type INETCPL.CPL.
2. On General tab, click "Delete Files", "Delete Cookies"
and "Clear History" and click OK.
3. On the Security tab, select the Internet Zone icon and
click Default Level.
4. On the Privacy tab, click Default if available.
5. On the Advanced tab, click Restore Default.
6. Uncheck the option: Enable third-party browser
extensions (requires restart).
7. Click Apply and then click OK.
8. Then, restart your computer and test this issue.
