Browser replicating itself.

Elwood

Using Explorer 6.0. Good internet connection, but browser
won't open (can't find page). Tried to delete browser and
reinstall, but browser replicates itself when I try to
delete. Ran virus scan (Norton) and there are no viruses
on the machine. Anybody heard of this?

I have no idea what "Tried to delete browser and reinstall, but browser
replicates itself when I try to delete" means, you can not just delete the
entire browser. Are you talking about the desktop shortcut?

Anyway, open a command prompt (or dos prompt) and type each of the following
lines, pressing enter after each one.

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

After you do all that, restart your computer and see if it works.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
