browser gone missing...

newbie to XP - when first loaded dig pics onto desktop or other folder,
double clicking a folder full of pics/then an individual pic resulted in a
photo browser opening automatically and the first photo in a series was
previewed; this browser allowed slide shows and very easy forward/backward
image previews. that browser has mysteriously vanished. only thing changed
on system was moving from 60 day MS Office trial to full version of XP
Office; also, updating the service packs critical updates etc; so, it's XP
home SP2.

now dig pics open with MS Photo Editor; you have to look at one pic at a
time, close the pic, go find the next in a series, double click it, close it,
etc etc etc.

wonder if anyone knows what the default pic viewer would have been for XP
Home and any advice how to restore / find it.

newbie to XP and even to dig pics so help is appreciated and apologies for
sounding pathetically basic and lost

thanks!

You need to change your image file associations.

Try this...open a folder that contains image files.
Right click one of the image files and from the
menu...choose...Properties / General tab /
Change button.

On your "Open With" screen you will see a list
of Recommended Programs. Select (highlight)
"Windows Picture and Fax Viewer"

Now click...OK / Apply / OK.

If you have images saved in several different
formats...like...jpg, gif, tif, etc. You may have
to re-associate each one.
