When I am in an aplication that needs to browse for folder and or file, it
takes ages. I am running XP Professional -SP3, 2 GB RAM. Any ideas how I
can cure this, apart from a re-install ?

Any particular folder? Any particular files in a folder?

Try opening different folders with different files to find a pattern.

For example, this often happens when trying to view folders with videos in them,
especially when certain shell extensions are installed to preview them or
extract meta-data from them. What happens is that the system seems to lock up,
or at least slow down while it reads the big files to display info about the
video.

There are ways of turning that off, if that is the problem, but you would need
to determine exactly what is causing it, and that means finding a patter (or if
there is no pattern at all, that is also a clue).
