broken h-links - does it really matter...

S

Steve

First, I want to give a HUGE Thank You to Tom, who
explained to me that I can recalculate hyperlinks and
check for broken links locally, on my hard-drive, which I
am doing right now with my 4050-page site...

It is going fine, and the broken hyperlinks report is
going through the "verifying" stage as I type, and oh-by-
the-way, there are over 5000 broken internal hyperlinks,
which begs the question:

Does it really matter that I have over 5000 broken
hyperlinks?...

Does this hurt my site?...

An outside company ran a an external check on my website
about 3 weeks ago from the web, and found that I had about
4 or 5 broken links on my site, which I immediately fixed,
so to the best of my knowledge, every internal link on my
site WORKS for people who surf my site on the NET...

So again...

Does having over 5000 broken internal hyperlinks hurt my
website?...Is there anything negative that can come from
this, other than me having to look at them on my
Reports?...

Because if not, I really don't see the point in me going
into this report and trying to eliminate them all from
this report...

Thanx for any advice...

Steve

Steve,

You are welcome.

Broken Links: The only broken internal links, that I can think at the moment, should only be links
that are contained in some type of JavaScript function.

Hi Steve,

What is an internal Hyperlink?

We have pages that have links that are broken in the reports provided by FP. However these pages are prior version pages or pages
that are used to index the web for internal use. As long as the links work on the exposed, visible to a user of the web site are
valid then I would say that everything is okay.

if you have broken hyperlinks it means your visitors are going to have 5000 "page
not found" errors! so yes, it's very important.
