broadband performing as dialup. cant repair connection, ipconfig cannot contact DHCP server

Recently my cable connection has lost any advantage it had over dialup, performing transfers at 10k/sec, max. I've tried the following, all without success
**disabling, then enabling LAN connection results in complete connection loss (resulting in 'unable to log onto google.com' type error
**using the repair connection option results in "renewing the IP address failed" erro
**releasing IP address using ipconfig, along with flushing the dns, does not work, as my computer is "unable to contact [my] DHCP server" when it comes time to /rene
**installing an updated network driver from intel (dated oct, 2003), also resulted in complete connection los
**using system restore can retrieve a working connection, albeit at the extremely restricted bandwith, and cant restore to anything prior than the V4 updat
**two online virus scans have found nothin
Two other computers on the home lan, both macs, have been operating fine, so Im inclined to think its not an ISP problem

I'm at a loss for what to do next, many thanks in advance for any help.

Are you saying that of all the computers that have access through the LAN's
router, this machine is the only one with problems?

Does this problematic machine have direct access to the cable modem or does
it go through the LAN's router like the Macs?

You might have better luck posting here:

Yeah, the TV cable runs to the router, then all computers, regardless of make, plug their ethernet cables into the router.

And thanks Jegger, i shall head over there. Come sunrise, anyway.
