Broadband Help

Guest

Hello,
Ive searched the web and found this as the only good place to get a good
quick answer. I was wondering I have BT Broadband (UK), the thing is though
im on the borderline of broadband and can just get it. Though every few
minutes it dissconects. Some people have said to me that the modems that BT
issue you with are bad and dont give a good connection and if I got a better
modem there would not be a problem. Is this ture and if it is what would be a
good modem to get. Please could you help as I spent a alot of time on the net
and this happening is annoying after a while.
Thanks,
Owen

BT have a bad habit of turning the 'gain' down on their lines.. this saves
them millions per year and is ok for voice transmission using a regular
phone.. the company stance is that they provide a perfectly acceptable phone
service.. that maybe so, but internet connection is a little more fussy..
get them to check out the line and increase the 'gain'..

They will, of course, suggest that you try re-installing Windows after
having taken you through the 'are your settings correct?' flow chart..
