Hi.. my friend just bought a new computer and this garbage(brightmail) keeps
sending all her emails as attachments.. We have since learned that Symantec
bought out Brightmail... and Symantec was pre installed on her computer..
She has since removed all of Norton's and or Symantec.. and she is now using
AVG as her Antivirus.. However Brightmail is still alive and kicking! How
should she get rid of this program? Any help appreciated.. thanks Rainy

Since you are sure that all Symantec's products were properly
uninstalled, check with their tech support about removal of Brightmail:

Hi Malke

I appreciate the response. I went to the link and tried to find an answer..
but when I entered Brightmail removal or Brightmail uninstallation..in their
faq it come up 0 answers found... My friend already removed Norton's..
supposedly all of it.. I used to have Symantec on my computer and found they
have O support.. If anyone knows how to do this.. please let me know..
thanks in advance.. Rainy

At the risk of sounding a pessimist, I once went through the exercise of
uninstalling every tiny piece of Symantec that I could find. I have since
discovered that Symantec gets really deep into the computer's system. The
only way to be sure you have rid yourself of everything, you would need to
wipe the hard-drive and start out all over again. i do not know if this is
possible in the case you describe as you do not say how the program was
pre-installed. If you're talking about a laptop with a crash or recovery
disk, then it will either permit you to exclude the Symantec program on
reformatting, or it will not.

Hi Neil. :) . I can guarantee you that my friend is not going to recover
just to get rid of this program.. She has spent the last week and a half
setting up her computer.. There just has to be another way ... I do
appreciate your response and agree with you.. Semantec is awful!! end of
story.. Perhaps some registry editing would do the trick.. I have removed
entries before .. but only program names, II don't know enough to do this.
I know she did a search for semantec and Norton.. I'm wondering if she did a
search for Brightmail it would uncover it.. I will ask her.. . thanks Rainy

I am not so sure about this Brightmail but if it is a Symantec product, you'd
rather contact Symantec tech support in your country.

Symantec is awful!!
Panda_man > Yeah,it is.I just wonder why almost everybody gets a PC where
Symantec has put a trial of their product.

I do not recommend your friend to use AVG because I think this software
cannot guarantee good protection enough to protect the average PC

Panda Titanium
or
Kaspersky AV Personal
or
F-prot AV + Panda TruPrevent
would be better

New computer? Most new computers include 30 days of free software support.
May want to try that route if not able to find the answers you need at the
Symantec site.

Hi Panda Man, thanks for the response, but boy I disagree with you ..:) i
have used AVG for going on 6 years now.. and except for a worm and a trojan
one other time.. it has gotten all the virus that were on my
computer.. Norton in the beginning which I first got my computer, missed
some major viruses that wiped out my hard drive.. I finally wised up

I purchased Norton's utilities a few years back and had a problem and
wrote to them.. no answer... it's the way they do business.. I love AVG
and will buy AVG pro eventually when I can afford to...But the free
version does very well, plus I am very careful about opening
attachments.. unless it's something I am expecting..thanks Rainy

Hi:

Call Norton Technical Support at 1-800-927-3995 and tell the first person
that you speak with that you have an installation/uninstall problem where
they will not charge you for the phone call. I am sure you will be able to
speak with someone who can resolve your problem and uninstall it.
Installation support is free.

Norton now has program Removal Tools when Add/Remove Programs does not
work for removal of their programs. Anyway I am sure they will help you with
your problem. You will need to have access to the specific computer when you
call them.

thanks Sharon.. I had not thought of that... I will let her know...
thanks.. Rainy
