box for text and box for pictures using msft Word 2002?

I have Word 2002 and Windows XP operating system. In using previous
versions of Word I was able to easily create a box for text and a box
for pictures and insert text or picture in the appropriate box.

I cannot seem to do this in Word 2002. Is it possible, or must I
resort to Publisher which can do the job, but cannot be converted to
Word, OR to discard Word 2002 and go back to earlier versions?

All replies welcomed! Aaron in N. Hollywood

Try this, Go to Tools > Options > General (tab), (under the "General
Options" heading, uncheck "Automatically create drawing canvas when
inserting AutoShapes".

It is not necessary to use a text box for pictures in Word 97 and above.
Just insert the picture itself and set the wrapping to Square, Tight, or any
other choice aside from In Line With Text.

The function to include a text box and use that text box to contain text or
images is retained right up to the current version and was certainly an
option in Word 2002.

note to Andre DeCosta & Suzanne Barnhill:

Thanks for your quick informative replies. I was able to accomplish
mission by using the SET WRAPPING feature to TIGHT. All is well!
