Box around desktop icons - how to remove?

I'm running Vista Business (32 bit) and have faint white outlines around all
of the desktop icons. This is always the case and has persisted through a
few display driver upgrades. I'm not referring to when an icon is selected
or the mouse pointer hovers over it. The outlines are there on all icons
all the time. I have an Nvidia 6600 GT. I've tried resizing the icons, but
the box outlines remain. Any idea what cause this and how I can remove the
boxes? I've Googled the NG's but didn't find much.

Try right-clicking on an empty space on your desktop, choose Personalize,
then click on Display Settings. Change the Colors to a lower setting
(e.g., from Highest to Medium). Then do the same again, and reset Colors
back to the way it was.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the (hidden) IconCache.db file under
C:\Users\(Your Name)\AppData\Local\ and restart your computer.
