bootup problem

hi, my laptop worked fine until last night. now when i
bootup it goes thru the boot process fine gets to show my
desktop for a second then goes to a two tone windows xp
blue screen and hangs up. the same happens in safe mode.
it boots fine starts to show the safemode screen then
reverts to the same two tone blue windows xp screen and
hangs. I have checked the date and time in bios and it is
fine. this happened once before and i did a repair last
month and checked for virus and spyware etc none found.
is there something else that can be causing this error
that i can fix without doing a repair? i went to the last
known good configuration and it just hangs as well.

Hi John

On the same screen as Safe Mode there is a 'Last Known Good Configuration'
option. Try that to see if you can boot into Windows normally.
