It means that you don't have the latest and greatest IDE cable.
The 80 conductor cable has better isolation between the active wires (to
reduce cross talk). And, cross talk between the hot wires could be a cause
of your pc to crash.

Hi,

If it was working previously, then you may simply need to reseat the
controller cable in the case (flat ribbon cable connected to the back of the
CD and hard drives). You may also need to reinstall certain motherboard
drivers. By the way, if you have a hard drive connected to the secondary ide
controller, then it needs to be 80 wire, and not the 40 wire type commonly
included with replacement optical drives (CD/DVD).

You need to determine why your machine reboots first of all, possible
reasons are

1. bad or unsuitable power suppy - is it Intel /AMD certified,
350watt or better
2. bad RAM - test with memtest86 www.memtest86.com
3. overheating - are all the fans working and free of dust

It's not clear if you always recieve the msg regarding the 80 IDE
cable on bootup or only when it does a reboot during gaming, also
what is actually connected to the primary & secondary IDE channels
currently.

FYI 80 ribbon cables [Ultra DMA 133] have colour coded connectors
[usually blue, black & grey] blue to the mainboard, black master & grey
for a slave device.
Wereas 40 cables do not support UDMA only ATA 33/66/13, but it is
easy to differenciate between both types.

Okay "return" key guy. The first UltraDMA mode for hard drives, dma mode 2
as part of the specification for ATA33, is the only one that doesn't require
the 80 wire cable. Where you got the idea an 80 wire ide cable is
specifically for ATA133 and nothing else is probably not worth pursuing.

hi roberto
the message comes up on every bootup not just when gaming, it is AMD
certified power supply, from the other replies it seems to point to the 80
cable itself, which i will replace thanx for your help
