When booting, before XP commences loading, I get a line of info during
the initialisation sequence -

"Secondary IDE Channel no 80 conductor cable installed"

Can anyone tell me what this means?

Hi Tony,

It means that the secondary IDE channel either has no cable attached, or
that you are using a 40 wire IDE cable and it was expecting an 80 wire one.
If you have an ATA66 or higher drive attached to the secondary (slave)
cable, to take full advantage of the speed you need an 80 wire cable. It
should still function at reduced speed with a 40 wire cable, but you
shouldn't use that sort of setup for the master cable (known to produce lots
of stop errors).
