Booting White Bar

I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows xp up to service pack 2.
Now when booting the computer a white bar shows up and runs for 5 minutes
before the windows splash screen displays and normal booting continues.
How do I get the white bar to go away or run faster?

What make/model of computer? Did you install the chipset drivers for the
motherboard?

Rock,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
It's a dell 4550.
I didn't install any chipset drivers, so I'll look into this.

Thanks,

This is interesting. . . I also have a Dell, an old Dimension 4300, and
noticed when testing System Restore the other day that after restoring I
had a clunky white progress bar across the bottom of the screen before
the Windows XP splash screen loads. Mine didn't take 5 minutes but it
did add another minute to my usual 56-second boot time :) I was stuck
with it on all subsequent boots until undoing the restore I'd done.

I wondered if it was some customization of Dell's for faster bootup
(like the way they suppress the POST) that was being
overwritten/replaced by the "proper" XP files. . . I'd be interested to
find out if anyone knows.
