booting from xp cd/recovery disc

When wanting to fix the root 32 hal.dll from the xp cd which in this instance
is a recovery disc that came with computer do I need to save all files to cd
before booting in recovery mode????

Depends on the Recovery Disk.
For some computer brands, the recovery disk will only reformat and rebuild to factory state. If so,
you better backup all your data because it will all be gone when the recovery is done.
For some other computer brands, the recovery disk gives the option for a non-destructive rebuild.
In this case, yes you should have a backup of your data, but if you cannot backup, you can try and
hope nothing goes wrong.
