Boot to Safe Mode

When I boot my computer I no longer get the screen with "Please select the
operating system to start". As a result, F8 is not available to start in
safe mode.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Are you dual booting?

I should add that I get a screen asking me where I want to boot from (ie.,
Floppy, CD, Hard drive) when I do use F8.

Then your BIOS has different keys to normal. Look up in your computer manual
as to what the key is. Have you tried all the other "F" keys at bootup?

Hello Dick,
You only get the F8 prompt if you have more than one line in the boot.ini
file. If you have only one line in the boot.ini, the OS just boots into
the only install of Windows that is listed. The timeout value is ignored.
Do Start Run and enter cmd.exe
then enter the following line:
bootcfg /copy /id 1
This copies the existing boot entry to make a second choice, now the OS
will stop at the boot menu and prompt for a selection at which time you
will also be prompted for the F8 choice to go into Safe Mode
Thanks,
