Boot problem with NTFS-filesystem

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with the NTFS filesystem. I would like to install the XPe
on a NTFS filesystem. After the BIOS startup procedure the system hangs
without any error-message on the screen and the log files fbalog.txt.log and
ntbootlog.txt are still not created by this moment.

I created two primary NTFS partitions (700MB/active and 300 MB) on a silicon
SSD-C01G-3076 with partition magic. Some space at the end is not allocated
for the EWF. On the 700MB/active I have copied the XPe datas from the TD.

I have tried on two different machines with different BIOS. On both systems
I have had this failure.

When I change the 700MB/active from NTFS to FAT and execute bootprep in
advance everything works fine. After the installation I can also access to
the second 300MB filesystem which is still NTFS. As far as I know I do not
need bootprep for the NTFS system, is this correct? I also tried a trick to
convert the filesystem from FAT to NTFS with the software convert. But this
seems not to work in XPe, because in the next boot process the program will
not be started.

For any solution for my problem I thanking in advance.

best regards,
Peter

Peter,

Is the CF card fixed? Silicon Systems offers both fixed vs. removable
versions.

When you format with FAT, is the CF card in an IDE-to-CF slot?

If you are using an IDE-to-CF slot, is it possbile to partition using
DiskManager and format with NTFS the CF under XP Pro? Just to eliminate
Partition Magic possible issues.

My experience is that partitions made by PM are not bootable by XP, at least
on "real" disks. Better to use DISKPART and FORMAT. I think I read that PM
uses a Win98-compatible boot sector, which obviously doesn't work with XP.

Thanks for your answers. In the meantime I have installed a NTFS-system
successfully. I had an old NTFS as ghost image file. I installed this image
file, deleted all files and copied the files from XP embedded.

Fact is, that PM is not able to install a correct bootable NTFS file system.
I used PM8.

best regards,
Peter
