Depoloying XPe image to hard drive partition

L

liquidcable

I have a full XP Pro system on a hard drive that is on the target SBC
(single board computer). I have created a second partition on the hard
drive and formated it with NTFS. I'm copied over my XPe (SP2) image to the
second partition and modified by boot.ini file from the first partition.

When I reboot and select by XPe build the system blue screens on me. I did
not think I need bootprep if if used a NTFS partition. What am I doing
wrong?

If you go on this road many things can go wrong. You need to tell us BSOD numbers and error description.

First problems that you did not address is to compensate for partition change.
If you installed XPe on C: second partition must become C: after you do copy.

Only way that I know to do that is to edit offline registry of XPe image and to change volume information's so that hey reflect
second partition.
In system hive you will need to change and delete entries from MountedDevices section, why so that when you move OS to second
partition it will use C: to access second partition.
Some more info about volumes assignment you will find here that you can adapt to your needs by using regedit on offline registry:
