Hi! I'm not able to find on my HD files like boot.ini,
ntdetect.com and NTLDR i've read about in the
knowledgebase. I've set the option "show hidden and
system files"...I can't undestand. They are not an the
root, the function "find" doesn't find anything (Windows
XP Pro, NFTS). Any suggestion? Thanx

Hi,

Start/run "C:\boot.ini" (no quotes, assuming you are installed to C:\)

Does this open the file? If so, then it exists, you just cannot see it. Go
to the Control Panel/Folder Options/view tab, uncheck "hide protected
operating system files" and make sure "show hidden files and folders" IS
checked.

In Windows Explorer, click on the Tool | Folder Options
menu item. After the Folder Options window appears, click
on the View tab. You refered to the "Hidden files and
folders" option. I suggest you clear the next two
checkboxs as well. They are "Hide extensions for known
file types" and "Hide protected operating files". The
later must be cleared to see the systems files you wish
to examine.

The files must be there, since you couldn't boot without
them.

Thanks I've found files.... I've not unchecked the last
option "Hide protected operating files". I've looking for
these files because this morning windows didn't start
(missing or corrupted file system...????), and i have had
to recover from Recovery Console of Windows CD (option
R). In the last days sometimes windows suddenly shuts
down and reboot. Now i've unchecked the option to rebbot
in case of system error so, i hope, i'll be able to
understandf what happens. Recenly i've changed RAM
modules...is it possible that hardware trubles are able
to corrupt system files? I've updated VIA driver, BIOS
ecc. My system is AThlon XP 2500+ (not overclocked), ASUS
A7V600, 2 modules RAM 512 DDR400, HD IBM 120 GB (2
partitions: 20+100), HD maxtore 30 GB, Audigy 2, radeon
9600 256 MB. In bios now i've set AGP in auto, disabled
fast write. I hope my system will be stable. But i don't
understand if is a software trouble (corrupting
files....why?) or hardware trouble mimickin software
problems. Thanx
