Boot File load sequence?

What is the "boot" file loading sequence?
Back in ancient times, DOS, there was config.sys and autoexec.bat,
then win.ini then system.ini etc was added. So what is the logical loading
sequence with XP that
gets you to the desktop?
Thanks
Xan

Hi Xan,

All the old loader files from DOS are gone.

This might help you understand a little better:

and a lot of references here:

Thanks for the reply.
I was hoping someone in this group might know the names of the
files.
I have been searching MS and Google all day with no luck.
I am aware that "dos" is gone. Just gave it as an example
as to what I am looking for.

What files? There is User/.../Startup and LM/.../Startup in the
registry. And the Startup folder. Items can be loaded from all 3 of
those locations. Is that what you're looking for?
