Boot.ini file question

N

Nana

Good afternoon all

When XP pro is loading, it shows the following message: "Invalid boot.ini
file. Loading from C:Windows." I searched for it and found only a "boot.ini
backup file". In msconfig, thw system.ini tab and Win.ini are different now,
no mention to boot.ini. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance,

Nana

Hi,

Rebuild boot.ini from a command prompt via the Recovery Console.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307654

From the prompt, run:

attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini
del C:\boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild

Good morning, Gerry

I read the page you suggested, but it I can start Xp, it loads normally
after this message. Is says loading from C:Windows, and I don't know what
this means, I only know that if it wasn't ther before, it is not supposed to
be there now, right?
Hope you have any other suggestions. Thanks,

Good morning, Rick

I'd like to ask if I install this "RConsole" I will have to choose between
them every time I boot the pc. Will it be like a dual boot system? If so,
after I rebuild the boot.ini I can change it back the way it was, I mean,
just logging XP? Soory for bother you, but this seems a little complicatted
to me, but I'll do whatever it takes. Thanks,

Nana

Hi,

You don't have to install it, you can just load it from the CD and run while
you repair boot.ini. Just hit "r" when prompted after booting with the CD.
