boot failure

After rebooting I recieved msg stating that the file
C_437.nls was missing or corrupt and the boot up stopped.
This is a problem because I can't get access to the CD-ROM
to repair this. I've tried booting up with DOS 6.0 and
created boot disk with Windows 98. The W98 boot disk will
allow me to access the C: drive but not the CD-ROM. I
copied the .NLS file from the CD on my other computer (the
win98 one) and I get a little further along but still the
boot process stops and no additional info is displayed.
Where is the CD-ROM driver located and can I set up the
boot floppy to access this so I can get access to the CD-
ROM? Any help would be appreciated as I have about 13 GB
of stuff on my 'puter and reloading would be a nightmare!

You could just do a repair install. This will keep your files intact.

Like I said I can't get to the CD-ROM to accomplish this.
The boot-up stops at the end of the thermometer. Booting
up with a floppy does not allow access to the CD-ROM. I
need to know if a "bootable" XP disk can be created on
another computer or place a CD-ROM command line on the
boot floppy I have now that will allow this to happen.

.
I think if you use a bootable floppy with mcd.exe it will
allow you to install a cd rom driver so you can access the
cd drive.

I've done that, the computer will not boot from the CD-
ROM, not sure why
Download the 6 diskette boot set from Microsoft. That will allow you
access to the CDROM and to the NTFS file system on the hard drive
(assuming it is NTFS)

If the hard drive is FAT32 then a Windows 98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com should do the job.

Good luck
