Boot blocked if device connected to 2nd IDE port

Dear all,
Having had troubles with a Pioneer DVD burner, I replaced it with an
older Philips one. After working without troubles for 1 day, I can't
boot anymore.

The system starts alright (BIOS) and I get to the windows XP logo
screen with the progress bar. Then it freeze and nothing else
happens.

The PC boots perfectly with an OpenSuse live CD, so I'm excluding a
hardware problem.

I've tried to put the burner on the 1st IDE port, it works. My "slave"
HDD provokes the same effect when it is connected to the 2nd IDE
port.

I've tried to uninstall the IDE drivers, no effect.

Motherboard : abit NF7 v2, nForce 2 chipset with latest available
driver.

Any idea ?

Thanks in advance !

BR,
Damien
