.bmp forced upon me

Trying to save images from any site or email will only
save the images as .bmp. XP no longer gives me the option
of any other file type. This started two weeks ago after
an automatic update. It wasn't broken until microsoft
fixed it. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK!!
