blurry pics not from accelerator

I was getting clear pics in the past. I had to reinstall my Windows Xp and
now alot (not all) pics are blurry. I was using Netscape with an accelerator,
disconnected accelerator still blurry then I switched to using just AOL and
I am still getting blurry pics. I did all the Windows updates. It is pics
that are posted from individulas online that are blurry. Like CNN comes in
fine, but if I go to websites where pics are posted, those are blurry. I am
at my wits end and cannot figure it out. Thanks to anyone who can help this
dunce.

Look for an image optimization setting in your AOL software, AOL uses
compression which degrades image quality and makes file sizes smaller (to
give an illusion of greater bandwidth though, really, it's the same
bandwidth - just the downloaded files are compressed) and you should be able
to adjust it there. Unfortunately I don't know where the options are in AOL,
only that they're built into AOL and that you'll want to turn them off if
you want to have full resolution images download.

The very first thing to try when you can't figure out something is to
"Google" for it. Go to www.google.com and type this in the search box,
without the quotes: "aol blurry images". The answer is there, try it.
Because this old curmudgeon is having a good day, I'll include a quote
from the very first entry that popped up:

**BEGIN QUOTE**
Click "Settings" at the top of the AOL window
Select "Preferences"
Click on "Internet Properties (WWW)"
Click on the "Web Graphics" tab
Select "Never compress graphics"
Click the "OK" button
Then you need to clear your cache; otherwise the old blurry images
will still show up. Go to "Internet Properties (WWW)".
Where you see "Temporary Internet Files," click on the "delete files"
button.
Click OK.
You may need to close AOL and restart it in order for the changes to
take effect.
**END QUOTE**

Depending on your version of AOL, there might be a slightly different
way of doing it, but this sounds right to this former AOL user.
