blocked attachments

I received an email with attachment but the attachment was blocked. I
only knew there was an attachment because I logged into my same
account using a web client and was able to get the attachment--a gif
file. Why did Outlook block this file and how can I remedy this? I
am receiving other attachments in Outlook with no problem.

This is Outlook on Windows XP Professional.

Are you sure it was a gif? Did the infobar say the image was blocked? If
not, how do you know it was blocked?
