Block javaw?

After updating to SP2 on my system, when I started up it asked if I wanted to
block JAVAW. I also just did a fresh install of XP (Home) with SP2 on my
wife's machine, and get the same question. That was before installing any
programs other than Microsoft (Word and Excel).

I have no idea what JAVAW is or what is trying to launch it. So I don't know
whether I should let XP block it or tell it to unblock it. Can anyone clue me
in?

javaw - javaw.exe - Process Information
Process File: javaw or javaw.exe
Process Name: Sun Java

Description:
javaw.exe is a process by Sun Microsystems which gives functionality to this
Internet protocol. Often works together with Internet Explorer. This program
is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless
suspected to be causing problems.

Author: Sun Corporation
Part Of: Sun Java
===

Filename: javaw.exe
Program Title: Swap Nut
Rating: 2 ( Not Required at Startup)
Comments: SwapNut is a peer-to-peer file sharing and searching utility
developed and marketed by File Metrics, Inc. Users can search for and find
almost any type of digital file (audio, video, photos etc.) through a secure
peer-to-peer network

This is the "windowless" version of the JRE. If you're running a Java
program do you expect it to connect to the internet? Of course, if you do,
let it go. If you're just using IE then this might be a rogue applet that is
trying to do something you don't want.

Lastly, on Windows java also periodically checks to see if there is an
updated version of the Java you are running. I haven't seen where you can
change this behavior but I know it happens.

Javaw Javaw.exe
(Sun Corporation) Part of Sun’s Java for Windows.
Recommendation :
Leave alone – Sun’s Java is used by all Internet browsers (Netscape,
Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Opera) and is essential to their ability to
display many websites.

In "control panel" - "Java Plug-in" - if you haven't noticed, there's a tab
for controlling whether Java checks for updates automatically or not.

That is the command method for loading Sun's Java programming language.
Presumably something in the past put an entry in the startup to load it
at boot; to run some application that uses this version of Java (the
only official one). I think I would see if this comes up every time;
or is a one-off, first time it gets invoked in SP2. If it does, I would
Start - Run and run MSConfig.exe Look on the Startup page for a line
where the Command column invokes javaw. Then first the description
might indicate what it is doing - the java program to be run, and also
you could uncheck it and see if on subsequent boots there is anything
missing that you would expect to be available

I don't have Sun Java, so there's nothing Java related in my Control Panel.
